"At Home in a Protected Place" 
Max A. Robinson is a retired architect and member of the University of Tennessee faculty. He currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus with the School of Architecture where he served as its Director for a ten-year period. Robinson received degrees from the University of Texas - Austin (B. Arch.) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.Arch.). Previously, he has taught at the University of Kansas and has practiced with architectural firms in Austin, Aspen, Wichita and Knoxville, most notably, McCarty Bullock Hosaple for almost a decade. Projects involving his participation generated by these firms have received design recognition on local, regional and national levels. In 1997, he was awarded the Gold Medal for lifetime achievement from the East Tennessee Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

He presently is a practicing artist and holds memberhsip in the Knoxville Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society and the Arts and Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville. He has participated in shows both on a local and national level.
