"Water Works" | Elaine Barnes grew up in sunny Florida, then traveled and lived in a number of other locations, including Guam, Chicago and Philadelphia, before moving to Knoxville over fifteen years ago. She currently lives in a beautiful rural setting in East Tennessee. Her work is inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds her.
Elaine says that, for her, the creative process is about joy. First, there is the joy of learning. Whether working in clay, glass or with paint, she is continually challenged to learn, problem solve and rethink previous ideas. She adds to this learning process by taking workshops and classes locally as well as traveling in order to learn from internationally acclaimed artists. Secondly, there is the joy in being able to spend time doing what she loves to do. The time in her studio feels like time spent playing as a child. And, lastly, she is hopeful that her creations, the final products of her creative expression, will bring joy to others.
